Life is movement. Our heart beats, our blood flows, our breath brings the outside in and the inside out. All of the cells and atoms in our body are in motion, as they are imbued with inherent energy. A body at rest is still a body in motion, and through conscious movement we can affect our energy level, pain level, state of mind, posture, and even our restfulness.
Every year, more studies are done showing the beneficial outcomes of a regular yoga practice. Among the things that yoga can positively affect are: fatigue, energy level, blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, mood, mindfulness, levels of cortisol (stress hormone), menopausal symptoms, joint pain, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and depression.
If you are in pain or distress, a healthcare practitioner, such as a massage therapist, can help you to recover and find balance. But the ultimate healthcare practitioner is YOU. If you are ready to establish a self-care routine and take control of how you feel, consider giving yoga a try. Don't think you have to be flexible to begin!
